Home with rooftop solar panels at sunset

Did your solar company go out of business?

Your panels didn't stop needing care when your installer closed. We're building a service to watch your system, catch problems, and help get them fixed, no matter who put it on your roof.

When the installer is gone, the system still needs care.

When an installer shuts down, owners lose the people who knew their system: the monitoring login, the warranty paperwork, the phone number to call when production drops. A failed inverter can go unnoticed for months if no one is watching the monitoring.

Twelve31 Energy is a care platform for these systems. We help you figure out what you own and get your monitoring back. Once Care launches, we'll watch it for you and line up a vetted local contractor when something breaks.

Why solar systems go orphaned

Home solar is built to run for decades, but the company that sold and installed it may not be around that long. A few public examples:

The upshot: the hardware often still has warranty coverage, but owners can lose the company that monitored the system, filed claims and sent technicians.

If your loan servicer changed, your loan payments usually continue to the new servicer. That's a separate issue from who services the equipment on your roof.

Not sure where your system stands?

Send us a photo of your inverter label. We'll help you figure out what you own and who still backs it.

How it works

1

Tell us what you have

Fill in the short form. Add a photo of your inverter label or a serial number if you can. A photo of the box on your wall is a good start.

2

We identify it

We figure out the equipment and help you get back into the manufacturer's monitoring account, if one exists.

3

Get a baseline

You get one production report so you know whether your system is doing what it should.

4

Care (coming)

Ongoing monitoring, fault alerts, remote triage, and repair coordination with vetted local contractors.

What we check

Inverter

Make, model and status lights or error codes, plus whether it is reporting.

Monitoring

Whether your monitoring app or gateway still connects, and which options exist if the installer's portal went dark.

Production vs. expected

Your recent output compared with what a system of your size, tilt and location should produce.

Warranty status

Which manufacturer warranties likely still apply to your panels, inverter and battery, and who to contact.

Visible condition

From your photos: panel soiling or damage, wiring, and the disconnect and meter area.

Ownership fit

Confirming the system is owned, not leased or on a PPA, so we point you to the right party.

The free check is remote and based on the info and photos you send. It is not an inspection, and we don't climb on your roof.

What's covered, and what isn't

Not covered

  • Leased or PPA systems (the contract holder is responsible)
  • Roof inspections or climbing on your roof
  • Repair work itself, which is done by independent contractors
  • Legal or bankruptcy advice, or claims against a closed installer
  • Loan or billing disputes with a lender or servicer

What Care is designed to do

  • Remote monitoring of your system's production.
  • Fault alerts when output drops or equipment stops reporting.
  • Remote triage to rule out simple fixes before anyone climbs a ladder.
  • Repair coordination with vetted, independent local contractors.
  • Replacement parts sourcing for discontinued or hard-to-find equipment.

Care is in development and not yet available. We're a platform that coordinates service. We are not a contractor; repair work is performed by independent contractors.

FAQ

My installer went bankrupt. What should I do first?

Pull together your contract, warranty papers and equipment serial numbers, and check whether your monitoring app still works. Then contact the panel and inverter manufacturers directly; their warranties are usually separate from the installer. The installer's own workmanship warranty usually ends with the company. EnergySage · Solar Insure

Is my warranty gone?

Not necessarily. Panel and inverter makers carry their own equipment warranties, separate from the installer's workmanship warranty. For example, Maxeon and Enphase said they would support warranties on legacy SunPower systems. Solar Power World

My monitoring app stopped working. Is my system broken?

Not always. Some monitoring ran through the installer's portal or a gateway that lost its connection. Many inverter makers offer their own monitoring apps, and checking the inverter's status lights is a good first step. Rhode Island Office of Energy Resources guide

Will my inverter need replacing?

Possibly, at some point. String inverter warranties can be shorter than panel warranties, so an inverter may need replacing during the system's life. We help you identify the model and its warranty so you know your options. Rhode Island OER guide

Does my net metering change if my installer closed?

Net metering is an arrangement between you and your utility, not your installer. The rules vary by state and utility, so check your utility's tariff. U.S. Department of Energy · SEIA

Is monitoring live today?

No. Care is in early access. Joining the list gets you the free equipment check and a note when Care opens.

Do you do the repairs?

No. Twelve31 Energy is a platform. Repairs will be performed by independent, vetted local contractors.

My system is leased or on a PPA. Can you help?

Not at this time. Leased and PPA systems are maintained by the company that holds the contract.

Does joining cost anything?

No. The equipment check is free, and nothing is charged by joining the Care waitlist.

Get your system back on someone's radar.

It takes about two minutes. A photo of the inverter label helps, but it's optional.
